Why Read the Bible?
Have you ever been asked, "why read the Bible?"
When chatting with a friendly questioner in a comfortable setting, dozens of reasons come readily to mind. But what do we say when we need a quick response for a cynical unbeliever? Memorize these five answers, and you'll be prepared the next time you're asked, "why read the Bible."
There are many reasons to read the Bible; here are five.
1. Because the Bible is the inspired word of God (2 Timothy 3:16). The Bible is our creator, talking to us.
2. It is the owner's manual on how to live. It lights our path (Psalm 119:105).
3. It teaches us God's plan of salvation (2 Timothy 3:15).
4. It sustains, guides, and comforts us in times of crisis or uncertainty (Matthew 11:28-30).
5. Because God wants us to read it (1 Timothy 4:13).
Remember what the Bible teacher Kay Arthur wrote, "The Bible was written so that anyone who wants to know who God is and how to live in a way that pleases Him can read it and find out. The Bible tells us everything we need to know about life. That, my friend, is why you need to study it for yourself."
