Attalia was a major Mediterranean seaport at the mouth of the river Cattarhactes. It was named after King Attalus Philadelphus of Pergamos. The people of Attalia built the famous Hadrian's Gate in the harbor to honor the Roman emperor Caesar Traianus Hadrianus Augustus. Today, Attalia is a Turkish beach resort named Antalya. It boasts beautiful beaches, blue waters, luxury hotels, souvenir shops, restaurants, and a lively nightlife. Many remnants can still be seen from its time as a Roman seaport.
