Who was -
Simeon Niger -
Simon was a Christian prophet and teacher at Antioch. His name indicates that he was born Jewish. He is only mentioned in this passage.
Lucius -
Lucius was another Christian prophet and teacher at Antioch. Paul called Lucius his "kinsman" (Romans 16:21). The name Lucius is Roman, but he was born a Jew in North Africa at Cyrene, the capital of Cyrenaica (in present-day Libya).
Manaen -
A prophet and teacher. We read in this passage that he was "brought up with Herod the tetrarch." Some Bible scholars believe they were close childhood friends, while others think they were step-brothers.
Bar-jesus -
Means "son of Jesus," but notice that Paul calls him the "child" of Satan (13:10). His Arabic name was Elymas (meaning wise). From the city of Paphos, Bar-Jesus was Governor Sergius Paulus' private sorcerer and knew he would be unemployed if Sergius became a Christian.
Sergius Paulus -
The Roman governor of Cyprus. Historians have described Sergius Paulus as well-educated.
