Jesus teaching through parables.
The Parables of Jesus
"Jesus' favorite method of teaching was by parables. A New Testament parable is the story or picture of an earthly thing, person, event, or custom used by Jesus to illustrate a spiritual truth. Someone called the parable "an earthly story with a heavenly meaning."
Many of Jesus' parables tell about the progress of the Gospel in the world, the future of the Jews and the Gentiles, the nature of God's kingdom, and the end of the age.
A parable usually teaches one main truth, even though the illustration is made up of many supporting parts. As you read a parable, try to determine what the main point is. The paragraphs before and after the parable may be clues to that message, and some parables state directly what the message is (e.g., Matthew 13:36-43).
All the major New Testament parables are listed below. Only one Gospel reference is shown for each parable."
